Great Gatsby: Moulin Rouge and Aviator combined.

Recent movie by Baz Luhrmann The Great Gatsby, with its luxurious party scenes and lead character who is star millionaire, seems to be something what represents combination of two other movies - Moulin Rouge and Aviator.

The same way as in Moulin Rouge in Gatsby movie there is a lot of people  having fun with dances, alcohol and shows. and all of this is only curtain covering the real drama happening close to it.
Also it will be evident to compare Great Gatsby with another Luhrmann's film where another DiCaprio's character dies being not able to reach his love, his uncorrupted dream. But difference is in female characters. If Juliet is sweet and naive, then Daisy is  more cynic and suffers of her infantilism and it is Jay Gatsby's dream which makes her perfect in his eyes. But Daisy is not ready to sacrifice everything for her beloved like Juliet.
So it is evident paralel, when even by my opinion Great Gatsby is possibly the best Luhrmann's film to that moment.
And the character himself may be represented as combination of qualities of two heroes portrayed by DiCaprio previously. He is strong in achieving his aims and able to do crazy luxurious things like Howard Hughes, but also sensitive and able to love desperately like Romeo.
