Leonardo DiCaprio Wants to Reign Over Norway.

When Leonardo DiCaprio told in his interviews at Cannes this year, where he presented Great Gatsby Luhrmann's feature, that he will take only temporary break to have more time for ecology projects he was saying true. This week it was rumored that famous actor is again in search of new intresting parts in movie. It is said that he may appear in role of Harald Hardrada, the last great viking ruler of Scandinavia.

Project titled for now as King Harald is supposed to be produced by actor's own company Appian Way. Leonardo DiCaprio is an actor of wide range. He was seen many times portraying passionate lovers, successful businessmen and dealers, but we do not remember portraying him epic historical, better say legendary, characters. So that can be absolutely new expirience for man once noticed as Romeo in adoptation of Shakespear's love story. That may mark that actor more and more out of romantic personality he was exploiting in younger age and more and more involved with creating images of severe mid aged men, who have responsabilities over them. Rulers, Kings, decision-makers. Someone like Harald III the Hardrada who ruled over Norway for period of 20 years in eleventh age, in time of decrease of viking era. But do not hurry up to decide that there will be nothing like love story.

It is a question will be story told in the movie devoted only to scandinavian period of the ruler or will it also embrace his earlier expiriences of times he spend in Russia and Greece (Byzantium). His story of becoming King is one of the most complicated and intresting of all europen rulers. After defeat in Norway Harald escaped with brother to Kiev's Russ were he spend aome years as military leader in the force of Yaroslav the Wise who ruled Russia that time. And there were nothing surprising as Yaroslav's dynasty was found by viking leaders (like Rurik and Oleg 'Helgard' the Wise) and his wife Ingegerd was distant relative to Harald. In period of viking era Russia had very close relations with Scandinavia of that kind. Many viking warriors joined forces of russian princedoms and even were ruling them in the beggining of Rurik house time. For example, according to the tradition first female ruler of Russia St. Olga (Helga) had viking origins.

Then Harald spend time in service at Constantinople and even visited Jerusalem becoming extremely rich man after all his adventures. Since his time in Russia he established relations of trust with Yaroslav family. As reported he was keeping his money in Yaroslav's vaults to save them. Also it is supposed that he wanted to marry his daughter Elizabeth of Kiev from time he met her (movie with DiCaprio can not stay without some complicated love affair), but was not allowed, because other two daughters of russian ruler were married to Kings (Henry I of France and Andrew I of Hungary) due high position Kiev had in that time in Europe. When returning from Byzantium to Kiev richman able to claim for Kingship of Norway he recieved consent of Yaroslav to marry Elizabeth, no matter that he was not yet King Harald.

In this story there are elements which can be found to be quite similar to plot of Great Gatsby and other actor's movies. So now it is question what role love story will play in the movie. And what share the will be of ruler and of lover in new DiCaprio's character.
