Sometimes it happens that all lines of relations in movie are connect to one single object. That is what makes it some kind of symbolistic trophy, which may tells as a lot about development of the film. There is at least two very evident cases of kind including Gran Torino by Eastwood and Piano by Campion.
In Cannes film festival winning feature by Jane Campion everything is so tied to Piano. Time is 19th century. Leading character is a woman not able of talking since childhood. And she plays piano. When she moves with her husband to New Zealand, piano is only piece of her home and life left in Europe. And symbol of her soul. When her husband sells piano to another man (who can not play, but who likes his wife) that shows that he does not understand what piano means for his wife and by this that he doesn't understand her. And the other man knows what instrument means for her. And in current of film she moves from her husband to this man, who knows the meaning of piano.
In Eastwood movie Gran Torino all the plot lines are linked to vintage car. Leading character is a man who spend most of his life working for Ford motors. He is patriot. And his son sells Japanese cars. They have no good relations. Asian boy meets Eastwood's character for the first time when tring to steel the car and that links them as he forced to work for free for the man. Also it is first time when the gang appears in life of Eastwood's character. He will struggle them in current of film. He will give the car to the asian boy before final titles as a symbol of friendship and legacy.
Other cases of trophy or symbolic cars may be found in many other cases. In final episode of Cruel Intientions Reese Witherspoon's character drives Jaguar which was bet in the game for Sara Michelle Gellar's character. Which means a victory of her values over values of the former. In L'Eclisse by Antonioni Alain Delon's charactet fanally loses his beautiful Alfa Romeo. Car is stolen and drawned. That becomes the peak of all his problems of the day.
In a movie like in real life it is often not the thing is important, but what this thing means for relations between charcters, people.
