Iron Man is one of the Hollywood movie characters with wonderful Box Office reputation. His costume and his engineering skills make him special among others. But on the other side there is still a lot of things where comparison may be easily discovered. Most important external elements of any character, by my very private opinion, include his (or her) social background, relations with friends, with enemies, gender relations and also description of his extroversion - introversion level. That is what may help to find the answer for asking about who the Iron Man of Hollywood really is. If you think he is similar to James Bond and Batman you might be right. But if you think he has absolutely nothing in common with Harry Potter - you are wrong, because it is not so.
Evidently by his social background Iron Man may be compared with Lara Croft. His father left him business empire which is enough to finance his adventures. The same may be said about Bruce Wayne, but his father does not appear in movies like character and for Batman it is more question of his orphanhood than having an example to follow, the same way like for James Bond. In Marvel movies Howard Stark is more real character.
Iron Man's relations with enemies are similar to those of 007 agent. Screenplay writers chose for him mostly leaders of influential corporations and international terrorists. In recent Bond movie Javier Bardem portrayed villian who originated from the same system as James Bond. That is a fact which makes him comparable to villian portrayed by Jeff Bridges in first Iron Man movie, especially if we remember that both actors won Oscars.
Friends (or supporting people) of Iron Man can be classified on three groups the same way as those of Harry Potter. He has a girl (Pepper) who likes to do all the things right, in a proper way, which is controversary to the style of Tony Stark, but serves as complimentary addition for his carelessness. The same thing is Hermione to Harry Potter. He also has some one not so cool, but more funny and who can provide him with help in almost any situation. And also Iron Man is supported by powerful representatives of local authorities.
Also true that iron man doesn't use someone like Q or Lucius Fox toproduce his equipment, doing this part of homework himself. Being an engineer is probably major thing which makes iron man unique among hollywood characters, usually superheroes do not pick up this kind of job, leaving it for some one else.
The same way as James Bond, Iron Man on his way keeps relations with three kinds of women. There is a woman of a lifetime, the only one he fells in love with. So in this way Pepper plays the same part as Vesper in Casino Royale. There is a woman who is not his lover, but who is not only good-looking, but helps him in his mission. That is what makes Scarlett Johansson's character comparable to this of Olga Kurylenko in Quantum of Solace. And also there is, of course, beautiful women whom he meets ocсasionally time after time.
Iron Man is far not so dark like batman and not so tough as Bond,when he doesn't wear his armour. But on the other side he doesn't make so many jokes as Jack Sparrow. So he can be compared to lara croft once again among female characters by his extroversion standing somewhere in beetween of jack Sparrow and David of Prometheus.
So Iron Man is Iron Man. And now when we know that most probably Downey Jr won't act him anymore and marvel studio will need to find some one other for the franchise, it is a question will Tony Stark be different, and how much different he will be.
